Acupuncture for Post Viral Fatigue (ME) and Glandular Fever
“Acupuncture seems to have rebalanced my natural energy, which is quite a different and more life affirming state to that of being medicated. If you have a general malaise, I would wholeheartedly recommend acupuncture. Stephen says he does not chase symptoms, but in my case he sure as hell banished them!” read more |
It is safe to say that anybody undergoing a bout of glandular fever or a chronic viral infection such as Epstein Barr, will be under stress. Not only will their body be undergoing the environmental stress of being unwell, they are likely to be mentally stressed too. It’s know that stressed people produce stress hormones, such as cortisol, and that these can act to suppress their immune systems.
Acupuncture is a useful therapy in promoting relaxation and reducing stress, because it can stimulate the production of positive hormones, such as endorphins which give a ‘feel good’ factor, and by regulating other ones. This can sometimes be enough to shift the balance in favour of the physical body in its efforts to regain health.
Since 2012, there has been a ‘glandular fever like’ virus that is affecting all age groups. It typically affects the glands in the neck, at the back of the neck, sometimes causes a sore throat, can cause a persistent runny nose and inflamed sinuses, cause excess stomach acid, can cause intense headaches that will not go away for weeks (with no previous history of this) can cause stiff necks/shoulders, aching tired limbs, tiredness, dizziness and trouble sleeping. All or some of these symptoms may be present depending on how the virus affects the individual. In some cases, the condition will further deepen into chronic fatigue syndrome.
